Hi
Ive never posted on this board before, but hoping for some advice. Ive been working at the same place for just over two years. Ive had two roles here and both have been maternity covers in two different departments. The role Im in now has gone permanent, but I didnt want to stay as I hate it! So, didnt apply etc etc. The role I did the first time is now available again due to the lady going on maternity leave again. My old boss wanted me back and Ive been offered the job for an initial 6 month fixed term contract (but itll likely be a year).
The glitch is this just found Im pregnant. Its very early days and a complete shock as DH and I had a lot of tests that showed we were unlikely to conceive again (we have one DD already). We were about to start embarking on private IVF treatment. Im terrified as to whether it will stick or not, but so far so good.
So, basically by taking this role Ill potentially be messing them about. On the other hand, if I dont take it, Ill be out of work soon and wont get any maternity allowance/pay. If something does go wrong with this pregnancy Ill be out of work full stop. As Ive been employed continuously I have the same employment rights to maternity that someone permanent would get.
I guess I just feel guilty about taking a job that I know will ultimately put the department in a difficult position. Its quite a specialised role and not easy to find cover for. Could I get in trouble for doing this? By knowingly taking a role when I know I wont be able to stay beyond the first six months?
