new nanny job but pregnant

Hi everyone I need some help I'm due to start a new job as a children's nanny in March I will be 18 weeks if this was your nanny how would you react. Would you choose to employ a different nanny to avoid disruption within the family around the time of mat leave? If not would you consider taking the nanny back with own child if they took short mat leave? They won't have to pay my mat leave because of period of employment isn't long enough before baby comes. Any help is welcome, thanks in advance

Legally they can't refuse to employ you due to your pregnancy. Personally I'd be very frustrated though if it was my nanny, but ultimately if you employ a woman of childbearing age then there's always the chance she will get pregnant.

Don't automatically assume they will be happy for you to bring your child to work with you - some families are and others aren't. They have to keep your job open for you though even though you haven't been there long enough to accrue maternity pay you are automatically entitled to mat leave.

We'll you can't get sacked for being pregnant so legally you are safe.
However, this may be an unpopular view but as an employer I wouldn't be happy. I would be worried about whether you would be able to do your job as well when heavily pregnant ( I know many people do but it would be a concern). I would also be concerned about you being safe and well while in my home. Finally I would be concerned about replacing you once you had just started to bond with my child/children and I would not want a nanny with own child.
Sorry if that's not what you hoped to hear but the good news is that I don't employ a Nanny so your employer will hopefully feel differently about it.

They're obviously not going to be over the moon about it.

They may take you back with your own child, usually at a lower rate of pay. Having tried a couple of NWOC I would not go down that route, but I know families where its worked okay.

If I were the employer I'd internally be frustrated that I'd have to be chopping and changing care so soon but externally would congratulate you

Personally I wouldn't be willing to have a NWOC particularly if they had a young baby. But others may differ

I'd be very cross but there's nothing that can legally be done. There's no way I wouldnt accept a nanny with own child as it defeats the point of having one to one childcare.

I'd feel decieved and it would sour the relationship.

I wouldn't be happy but would be professional enough not to show it. However, I wouldn't consider a NWOC. Your working relationship with me would therefore be a short one, assuming you went on maternity leave by 36 weeks.
