Anyone got a temp Xmas job in retail?

I've been thinking about getting a temp job in a shop over Christmas to make some extra money. Problem is it would only be a Saturday as DP works 6.30am to 7 all week and there is no one else to look after my DDs.

Would they even consider one day a week?

Also apart from working in a chemists when I was 16-19 I have no other retail experience. DP thinks I can just wave my magic wand and get a job just like that.

What kind of money would I be looking at? To be honest I wouldn't want to be out all day for £25 (I know that sounds awful doesn't it) DP has also said that he couldn't look after the DDs two whole days at the weekend and still wants us to have a "family" day.

Anyone got any advice?

Hiya, I got a xmas job at Wilkinsons last year. It was 4 evenings a week although i could have done just 2 i think.

The pay is pretty basic, think mine was £5.66 an hour or something.

I had absolutly no experiance what so ever but it was fine.

Only thing I would say is that you need to be applying now, alot of places have already started setting on xmas staff.

ROFL, wonder what on earth you were trying to say.

Was just gonna ask you if they tend to let people do 10-2 shifts or not ?? A lot of places don't seem to anymore.

Sounds good, will pick up a form tommorow. It doesn't have to be 10-2 shifts but that would be my preference.

Only really wanna do it for the discount

Have already picked up a form for Woolies DP used to be a manager there a good few years ago.

8-11 a few nights a week I could do (let DP sort out DD2 at night )

Was thinking about Next too but DP says I would end up owing them money after the sale.

Another question - what about income tax?

Surely if thats the only money I earn for the year I wouldn't have to pay tax (under the minimum allowance surely) I know I would have to pay NI though?
