I work for the NHS and we are merging with another organisation. I've been advised by my line manager today that my post is under threat as there are two of us doing a similar role. This comes just a week after they interviewed for someone new to do an identical job, they haven't started in post yet. I am currently managing 2 teams including the one they just interviewed for. Do you think I might have a grievance here? My track record is impeccable by the way. I am in a union and will contact them.

On the face of it that sounds like pretty poor practice. I'd be expecting them to pull the offer to the new person if they are doing an identical job to one which is at risk of redundancy. Are you sure this hasn't happened?

Has your role been formally place at risk? If so, and if they have recruited for an identical role without giving you priority to apply for it, then yes. Speak to your rep though.

Thanks. I ended up emailing a more senior manager who told me my manager was incorrect and my job isn't at threat now or in the future.
