I work as a property journalist specialising in overseas investment so I get to visit developments in lovely places and get to stay in fab hotels, eat great food and drink fab wine. I totally love it, it's my dream job. The downsides are that it is not actually paid that well and I work freelance so it is undependable. But basically it is fab

I really love my work. I work for myself. I'm a lawyer. I do such interesting work for so many different companies. Sometimes I travel - I had to go to Trinidad for 3 days in July not that that's actually particularly fun or interesting after a time. the clients and work change. The work is intellectual challenging and well paid. I am in total control of my hours and income and everything. I am based in an office at home. I am very very lucky to have hit on something that suits me so well. The nicest bit of it is achieved when I'm immersed in the work - I achieve what is called flow - you are so immersed in it - it's core happiness. The law is difficult and changes. It's like being paid to do cross word puzzles all day. i also write a lot of book and give lectures in it and like to try to be the best person in the country at what I do. I work with really clever lovely people who are very appreciative much of the time. I think it's the best job in England. But I'm generally fairly positive so may be if I were in charge of the toilets in Covent Garden I would feel as happy.

I'm a policy adviser for an NGO. spend my days reading horrific stuff and working out what exactly we should say about it. very interesting and intellectually rigorous - and I sometimes get to feel like I'm doing something positive. most exciting thing I've done is go to Iraq in 2003.

MY job is great as I can pick and choose what shifts I do, ideal with 2 kids. It is exciting and varied and I get to travel too. But its a secret sorry. . I sell toys and sweets too online and at fairs, not exciting but fun if a bit stressfull getting it all ready in time.

used to be a management accountant and switched to station assistant PT evenings. all classes and types of commuters. i am always amazed the ones who show up in suits on weekdays and leather thongs on weekends. xtra shifts available when i'm skint. chance to do all 20hrs on sat & sun to save on chilcare.

Very facsinating, no work to take home, no books to balance, free travelcard for me and dh and it's what you make of it. got maternity suspension coz i couldn't work while pregnant so i signed in from home and still got paid.

hermykne · 02/10/2006 12:28

I'm a SAHM, but one of my sis is in crime scene/forensics. She doesn't tell me much .. probs confidential anyway.
She did tell me recently that there are about 5-10 cases of newborns/babies being suffocated to death by their mothers sleeping on them each week!!!

I'm a Geneticist mainly dealing with herediary cancer (but we do see other genetic conditions as well). I love it... right up to the point of giving bad news regarding risk. Sometimes I wonder if I had my time again, would I go down this route? (Landed in it by default as genetics has only really taken off in the last decade.)Makes me wonder because I just love Dragons Den, although am begining to think it's becoming a bit cruel!!! Anybody else feel they would have liked to try a completely different career?

My job will be exciting and interesting shortly when I go out and have words with the miserable buggers that are whispering in the next office

jac34 · 02/10/2006 13:43

My job isn't all that exciting but it's quite interesting.I'm a dental technician in a big univercity hospital.I work in child dental health and orthodontics but we also do work for the oral surgery clinics,we make templates of jaw operations, feeding plates for cleft babies, and metal skull plates for patients with skull defects.
We are asked from time to time to help with some forensic dentistry as well.
