So most interviews end with 'we'll make a decidion by the end of the day and will contact candidates tonight or tomorrow'

that was last Wednesday

okay so I get it, I didn't get the job

but why can't employers do us the courtesy of telling us sooner?

it's just manners isn't it? we spend ages preparing, getting an outfit, gettign nervous, making a good impression

I know it's probably because they are waiting for whoever they have picked to provide ok references etc but I just think it's so rude & frustrating

I know. It's torture.

Commiserations.

amyhamster · 29/09/2014 21:11

thank you

I just wish they hadn't said they'd call when they didn't!

I'm mid-application form; my first for over 10 years & tbh all I am hoping for is a rejection Wink

I hope they tell you something - could you ring for feedback?

there are two people waiting for me in that exact situation. THe reason they're hanging on (unfairly, I agree) is that there may be two jobs available now rather than one and we're trying frantically behind the scenes to hire both of them. So chin up, it may be a positive reason :-)

god don't Grin

I just can't take the highs and lows, jumping every time the phone rings!!

I had a similar issue a few years back. I heard three weeks later with a profuse apology from the interviewer who hadn't realised the employer wanted to have the contract and all paperwork signed by the lucky candidate before letting the others know. It was a very genuine apology and I wasn't actually very keen post interview, but it's a miserable situation to be in if you are. I've heard of a few instances as Tranmere says though.

Still no news amyhamster?

I've just been for an interview and they said that they will be in touch by the end of the week. They have been interviewing Friday, yesterday, today and I think they said that they were interviewing tomorrow. Do you think they say "by the end of the week" because they contact their 1st choice candidate at the end of the last day and to give them time to consider?

JustSayNoNoNo · 02/10/2014 19:00

Phone them. There could be many reasons why they haven't heard, eg, 1st choice candidate hasn't accepted yet and is keeping them hanging on (eg while they negotiate with their own current employer). Sometimes if you call it shows you are keen and if their 1st choice falls through, you could be the one they turn to.

But I agree it's very, very poor manners to leave you in limbo like that.

JustSayNoNoNo · 02/10/2014 19:00

why you haven't heard

FishWithABicycle · 02/10/2014 19:05

If you don't hear for this long, it's probably because you are second-choice.
Candidates #3-#6 (or howevermany) hear quite soon.

Candidate #1 gets a phonecall quite soon.

Candidate #2 gets left hanging for ages because there's always a chance that candidate #1 is planning to use the job offer to negotiate a payrise with their current employer, or is only going to accept the job with a higher pay level than is being offered, etc etc so they are keeping you in reserve so they can offer you the job if one of those things leads to candidate #1 walking away.

I got a letter yesterday :(

exactly 1 week after the interview

applecrumbleandcream · 03/10/2014 01:10

I've been for two interviews where I never even got told I hadn't got it !!

ChippingInLatteLover · 03/10/2014 02:15

Sorry you missed out on this one Amy :(

I hope a better one comes along for you soon! Wine

I had an interview at the end of August via an agency, and was told that second interviews would be held the following week. About two and a half weeks later after chasing the agent numerous times plus seeing the role readvertised online direct from the company I heard I hadn't got the job. Nor did the other three candidates, but it was so frustrating, and I thought, very rude. Made me think I didn't want to work for them anyway if that's how they treat potential employees.
