What would you make of this email? Follow on from interview related

I recently had an interview. The whole thing was arranged through a third party company. Not an agency exactly but not sure what you'd call them.

Anyway, at the interview they informed me that due to one of the people they shortlisted for interview being out of the country till the end of September they cannot interview them till the first week of October and they have been told by hr they are not allowed to make any offers until then. Today I has an email from the non agency saying there is a delay in notifying people due to internal processes but can I let them know if there are any changes in my circumstances as the company "are still very interested in your application"

So am I reading too much into this or does it really sound positive? Or would they have sent the same message to all the applicants?

It's gonna be a looooooong month Confused

I'm sorry you are having to wait.

Unfortunately I wouldn't read much into it. Red tape meaning things have been put on hold - so everyone will just have to wait. I would assume the person on holiday is an internal candidate - so if anything, not a good sign. Sorry.

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 17/09/2014 14:21

Am guessing they have probably said that to the most suitable candidate(s).

If I was them I would not send that sort of message to a poor candidate who I never intend to see again....

So I would see it as possibly positive...

Fingers crossed!

BiggerYellowTaxi · 17/09/2014 14:22

I would think that was very positive, like you're number one right now. Surely they would tell you if it was a definite no.

thatstoast · 17/09/2014 14:26

That doesn't sound positive to me. I think if they're willing to hold up the process for a month they must really want that person above anyone else shortlisted. So unless the candidate really messes up the interview it seems likely they'll get the job.

It could be good news but I wouldn't stop applying for other roles or attending other interviews in the hope that it comes through.

Sorry, I should have mentioned this in the op. There are a few positions going and as you say, I wouldn't have thought they would say that to anyone who was a definite no.

Also the impression I got at the interview is that they weren't aware this person was out of the country till they gave the agency the list of who they wanted to interview and the interview dates. They were then told by hr that for legal reasons they had to interview them.

Anyway, still non the wiser. I had another interview soon after and I've been offered that position but I have delayed giving them a final decision so far as I really want the other one. It's very frustrating but i know I am very lucky to be offered a job at all Smile

Lots of fannying about goes on in companies when interviewing.

I certainly wouldn't hang around for them. Keep applying and going for interviews.

Sounds like you're not a definite no, but there could be a few of you in the maybe boat.

If you're sitting on an offer, can you go back to the agency and see if you can push for resolution? I don't think the company that has offered you will wait til October.

Would you consider accepting the first and pulling out if you get the one you want. mean, and I wouldn't do it if you work in a small industry where everyone knows everyone but if you're desperate to get the second one the ends may justify the means.

Monroe · 20/09/2014 11:02

maggie I have considered it but it doesn't sit right with me to accept and then withdraw a week later. However I still haven't had a formal offer although I received an email yesterday saying it and my contract were in the post so should be with me sometime next week.

I'm hoping it takes a few days to reach me then I can sit on it a few days and then hopefully here for definite from the other one early the week after.
