Hello

I am 5 months pregnant - baby due in jan. I have a 17.5 month old son who I have been at home full time with since birth. My old work have said that I could temp there for 3 full days a week 8.30-4.30 and would be paid approx £9 hour and after NI and childcare costs I would come out with approx £90 for 3 days work. We are currently in process of decorating our house to go on the market in about a months time and will then once sold will move into our other house (which will also need decorating).

I am not sure whether to go back to work pt. My husband wants me to stay at home with son and thinks I am mad to want to go and work and this stage in my pregnancy. I really don't know what to do as part of me would like to mix with adults and earn a bit of money to put towards xmas presents but then on the other hand I adore my son and would miss him and don't want to miss out on anything but then he may enjoy nursery and get something out of it. When I have my second I may put my son in nursey for 2 afternoons a week so I can spend a bit of quality time with newborn. Any advice??

hi
i'm due april and am on a temp contract to finish in jan so am in a similar predicament! have sort of decided that doing a couple of days a week will prepare ds for not having my attention all the time.

if you are at home with your son 24/7 and then after baby comes you send him to nursery (which is a great idea, i firmly believe children should do at least one session a week, they get so much from it and learn social skills they just can't get elsewhere), he may feel he is being pushed out by new baby. at least if he goes while you work it will be a continuation, not something he feels caused by baby.

plus, the money always helps, you have months of being a full-time mum ahead of you so could do with some 'adult' time, and if you're not already entitled to government £108 a week maternity then you would be if you temped for 3 months!

imho you should go for it x hth x

Hi EllieK - thanks for your feedback. Can you claim maternity if you temped for 3 months? Do you know how much you get? Are there any websites that I could look at that would tell me what I would be entitled to? Thanks again!!

HI

I returned to work for the last 6 months of my 2nd pregnancy. My 2 girls are now 26m and 13m. I havn't gone back this time as childcare for 2 is just silly.

IMO although £90 (after costs) is good for 3 days, if you can manage without it i would. You life (and you sons) will be turned upside down when new baby arrives and i think it would make things harder to have this change now too.

I have set up my own business which gets me out and about and earns a bit of extra cash. If you think you'd like to startup your own business take a look at www.mumandworking.co.uk, theres loads of ideas on there. ar you can contact me if you'd like any more information on what i do. Goodluck with everything and hope you enjoy rest of your pregnancy
