Can I self cert for additional 5 days following extended sick leave?

I have been off work for 5 weeks with clinical depression signed off by my GP - this then ran into a pre-approved annual leave week - and I want to know if I can self certificate another next 5 days rather than having to go back to my GP? I am not in receipt of any sick pay as I was not with the company long enough.

I strongly advise you not to, and any sensible employer would agree with me. If you've been off long term sick, then for your own benefit you should get your doctor to sign you as being fit to work, and I would expect your employer to want to see a fit note indicating that you are fit for work also.

At my company you aren't allowed to run sick leave into annual leave - it would be reclassified as sick leave - especially as you were sick afterwards ie also still sick during what would have been the annual leave period.

They would also ask to see a doctors note to cover the extra time

Hope you are feeling better now
