Pregnant & boss is trying to push me out

New to a job, doing well but told I'm giving it 150% when they only want 100%

I work alone most of the time. Have had payrise but not long after, they've found out I'm pregnant. Since then, it seems they're trying their hardest to get me to leave saying I'm not capable of doing the job & I'm still far too eager & enthusiastic.

I don't know how much I can take of it & I'm sure I wouldn't be able to claim JSA even :-(

Firstly- I love when people are enthusiastic about the job at hand.

The enthusiasm itself isn't an issue, it's hard to tell people that by being overly careful/involved/questioning procedures etc that its actually making them less effective at their job.

I'm not saying that this is definitely the case with you but just talking from personal experience!

If this is the case, then pay attention to the actual job at hand. What you're being asked to do rather than the surrounding factors.

That's assuming that they aren't just bastards who are trying to manage you out... Hopefully somebody will be able to advise what to do in that instance!

Don't understand. You are "doing well" and are by their comments putting in tons of effort. But then they are saying you are not capable of doing the job.

What have they said about you not being capable of doing the job?

She said I seemed stressed yesterday - we had a fairly busy day, another person made an error on a booking meaning I had to sort out staff. As the manager walked in, I was dealing with some broken equipment. The day went fine otherwise. I wouldn't have said I was stressed at all. Normally we would have had someone else in to deal with that level of work: yesterday there were three in.

She tried to get me to agree to doing 5 days rather than 4 which I wouldn't make an immediate decision on, questioned why I would need to speak to my partner about it. X

Unless there's an awful lot more to it, I think it's a big leap to assume that because your boss mentioned that you seemed stressed that means she doesn't think you are capable of the job and is trying to push you out.

Just had the rota through for week after next, I do 36 hours over 4 days - I'm on four short days totalling 30 hours & on stand by for another day. Can they change my number of days without consent?

What does your contract say about hours/days/rotas?

It was verbally 36 hours over 4 days. I wasn't due to get contract or payrise until the end of this month, I have already had the payrise.

I got it wrong, its 26 hours after breaks that week - ten hours short. X

So you don't have a contract? Do you have an HR dept? It sounds like you need to get things in writing or they could just continue to chop and change your hours/days etc to suit.

You are entitled to a contract or at least a written statement of the main terms of your employment within 2 months. How long have you been there?

Been there two and a half months. No, no HR department :-( x

Her saying you seem stressed or over enthusiastic doesn't sound like edging out.

Re shifts - do others get ebbs and flows in shift amounts?

No its very much set. I've spoken to manager since, they've changed my shifts for two weeks & promised it'll go back to normal.

Been left terrified of the main boss now & work colleagues were asking why I was held back. Thank you for all your help ladies. I'm praying I make it as far as my maternity leave but they are well known for hiring & firing & I'll keep going as well as I can xx
