Thinking of going into recruitment! Advice needed

I have considered going into recruitment and I was just wondering how much is realistic to earn?

I have got lots of previous sale experience. I have been involved in property for several years among other sales and admin jobs.

So I am wondering if there is a 20k basic salary, what is the commission likely to be and how much could I take home?

Also do you have to put in extra hours? Or can you just do 9-6 or 9-5?

It is a long time since I did it but it very much depends on what sort of recruitment...your commission would be based on the fees you make...which will be based on the salary of the people you find jobs for. Labouring staff will earn less than City based IT or finance staff - so you will have to place more labourers than IT staff for example.

Sorry if am stating the obvious.

Oh and as to hours - depends on the agency.

It's very very hardcore high pressure sales in my experience.
I have never done it myself, although I have been offered posts doing it quite a few times.
I have friends who do it and also who own recruitment companies and I also know a few " burnt out" ex recruitment consultants.
The hours are long in general and the pressure is high, turnover in staff is usually pretty high too.
Having said that I know done people ( mostly young and single) who love it and make quite a bit of money.
It's tough and doesn't suit everybody, even those who have done sales before but some people do enjoy it.

Thank you for the response, I also know of some people that love it and make good money and one friend tired it and hated it, she was also an estate agent.
