Just changed job and found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant

From what I understand I would only be entitled to maternity allowance. I will be returning to work - I only intend on taking six weeks leave due to circumstances - I've done this before and I know I can cope.
How to approach new employer with the news. It's all a bit of a surprise

That's correct about qualifying for MA, it's the same amount per week as SMP however you don't get the 6 weeks at 90% salary.

You aren't under any obligation to tell your employer until 25 weeks pregnant, so unless you feel you need a risk assessment for H&S I'd personally wait until after your 12 week scan as a minimum (obviously if your job involves things like heavy lifting, chemicals Etc you would need to say something sooner).
