Hi all

I am new to Mumsnet. I am interested in starting my own business in the antenatal/birth/baby arena and was wondering if anyone else has done the same or similar and if people think that it is a service that people would pay for, considering the alternatives. I am a qualified nanny, midwife and health visitor. I am hoping to make this a part time business that I can operate on a flexible basis around looking after my toddler.

Services I would like to offer include:
Antenatal classes and/or one to one
Breastfeeding workshop
?birth doula
Postnatal doula
Breastfeeding support
Weaning workshop
?maternity nursing

So basically a one stop shop for everything baby related. I would also consider undertaking further courses in time if business was good, in things like hypnobirthing, baby massage etc.

I need to be able to start up as cheaply as possible.

Any thoughts or advice very great fully received.

Thank you

I think it depends on your location and competition.

You really need an audience of parents/women that can afford your services.

Also how strong is your local NCT presence? They will be competiton for some things you do but also they can provide a cheap way to advertise to a very targetted market.

I think the sorts of services you want to offer are appealing, you just need to get to the potential customers.
