Hi there,

I start my new job tomorrow and will be signing my contract tomorrow too. At interview I didnt say Im preggers, now 21+3 days (with a visible bump), due to some of the lifting in the role I am wanting to tell them asap so that Im not left with some of the deliveries.

HR will be there tomorrow too and I was wondering if people could give me advice on what to say, all the new staff will be there and will need to take my manager aside to tell them before the other staff and as HR are there do I give them my 25 weeks letter now? I want to work as long into my pregnancy as I can.

Nervous!

Congratulations Smile, but I imagine it will be a little bit awkward, in light of the fact that they employed you in a role which requires you to do certain things which you will not now be able to do!

I don't know how I'd handle it, tbh. How long ago was the interview? I mean, could it be feasible that you hadn't known you were pregnant at interview? I think in your shoes, a white lie is the only way I could negotiate the situation without being excruciatingly Blush!

Good luck for tomorrow, and hope everything goes well.

The lifting really isnt a large part of the role, and with the proper management is avoidable (I have done this job before and so with good staff management can be reduced greatly during my pregnancy) and as Im working PT feel that this is do able. Im more wanting to tell them due to showing (which I wasnt so much 2 weeks ago) and hospital appointments as I have a few extra.

The interview was 2 weeks ago and I dont want to lie about knowing....legally I dont have to tell them until the end of the month, just feel that saying at interview Im preggers isnt appropriate and not telling them sooner rather then later can make having the time off hospital appointments more difficult.

I after losing my last job due to being preggers I have been very careful not to take a new role that I cannot excel in!

Ah, ok. Wasn't sure what the requirements were. (Wasn't getting at you, btw, just hate awkward situations!)

Why don't you try and arrive a bit early, and just be very matter of fact with manager/HR, saying you need to sort out some paperwork with them, and hand over your 25 week letter, which will kind of explain the position for you.

If they get funny about you not disclosing it at interview, just say what you have said here, which is a succinct and reasonable justification. Smile

I would arrive a bit early and talk to HR/manager then. Just be factual, don't tell them you didn't know or offer explanations - "I just wanted to let you know I am 21 weeks pregnant".

Hey ladies,

Thank you for your replies. I hope that they arent going to be off, I hate all this; that being preggers and getting a job still leaves you feeling worried etc.

:o(
