Overhead projectors-need advice or my boss will have me!

I am appealing to those of you with techie knowledge!

I organised a wireless OHP for our boardroom. It has a little box attached to it to make it project what is on the laptop through wifi.

However, the projector cannot pick up our internal work system which is what the while point on the projector! The software is linked to the Internet.

Why doesn't it work?! I have come to two conclusions:

  1. There is a security firewall issue which prevents the work software being linked to 'foreign hardware of ohp'; I failed to know I should have bought ohps through the company, not externally!
  1. The wifi is not powerful enough to boot a programme already dependant on Internet connection to the projector with wifi.

It is also worth mentioning that once the laptop was taken from projector, the work software program went corrupt.

I have had engineers involved and we have not been able to resolve. My boss has asked me to 'just sort it' but I have come to a dead end. Help Mumsnetters please!

Thank you in advance Confused

Can you test with another (non corrupt) laptop? Also, can you test with a network cable from laptop to ohp to see if that works? When did it last (if ever) work & is it under warranty? Can you disable the firewall software whilst its on the ohp?

Finally, I'd google the make & model of the ohp and see what you can find online regarding troubleshooting the thing. Might need a firmware upgrade.

Thank you for your reply, I didnt think anyone would to my boring little problem!

I tried a cable linking the two, it didn't work; tried on another company laptop and both had same issue. The company software on both laptops corrupted afterwards too!

There is a warranty.

Does this shed any more light on what it can be?

Thanks!

Do you have an IT department who could assist you?

Imnotaslimjim · 12/08/2013 08:23

DH is an IT tech, he says issue points to a firewall, can you turn it off or create an exception? (turning it off is the easier solution)

We do but they are on phone only. They are reluctant to help as the ohps were not bought by them. If I had known I should have bought through them we wouldn't have this problem!

Contact the company you bought them off for help.

They may even be faulty!!

I hadn't considered they might be faulty. I have contacted the company and they are looking into it for me.
Thank you all again Smile
