Employment law - advice on going back to work as a temp (previously a permanent member of staff) URGENT

Hello - I am still on extended maternity leave and have foud out that I am pregnant (not sure how far gone.) I wanted to go back to my old job 3 dats a week as a buyer but they would not allow this. Only 4 days with full 5 day responsibility or 5 days. (3 days is the max I want to work). There was a part time job that came up and applied for but I am not going to go for the interview knowing that I am pregnant and that I will off in x months -- does not feel right. Also childcare costs for 2 children would mean that I would have to be on big salary to make it worth while. My boss rang me and said that there need a temp 3 days in my old department working on jewellery but without the stress and I could leave on time etc - money not as good but it would get me out of the house and I would be working with a team I know. She has now e-mailed to say that they cannot have me as a temp for 13 weeks? I have not spoken to her yet but does anyone know why this would be the case? It does not make sense. I know that they have a temp in there at the moment. I would be able to step into the job - no training etc. Any advice? This is urgent. thank you
