hello I have a 14 month old boy and I have taken extended maternity leave to be with him (as it took 2 years to get pregnant). I wanted to go back to my old job as a buyer 3 days a week but work would not allow this, they offered me 4 days (with fulltime responsibilty) or 5 days. I enjoyed the job but found it quite stressful - but there were some nice perks - free samples etc. I declined the offer and work agreed that they would send me job adverts within company uptil mid may. 1 job came up which was a level higher in a different department working 3 days but with up to 15 days travel a year. Completely new area for me and would be a bit scary - big challenge.

I have found out that I am now pregnant with my second (not sure how far gone) and have am supposed to have an interview next week for the job. I am not sure what to do as in a way I would be returning from extended maternity leave only to tell them that i am pregnant again and will be off in x months. I would want to definitely take a year with the next and then you have the issue of childcare costs for 2 - is it worth it. I absolutely hate interviews and don't want to put myself through it i am not going to follow it through. I also think it will look bad on me. I know that there is someone else going for the job who is already on the same grade level as the job applied for and her job might be made redundant so part of me thinks they are more likely to give it to her (if she is more suitable and will be losing her job). I know how tiring it is being pregnant and then learning new job. Really not sure what to do please everyone give me your advice. I need to let them know by tomorrow if I am going for the interview. Thank you

Hi, I was in a simialr situation as I got pg just before I returned to work after my first - just on normal mat leave. It was a bit of a nightmare as I had a very sexist boss. In the end I looked around for part time jobs (within the same organisation - I work for a uni) and ended up with a nice wee evenings and weekends position on a lot less money but I actualy bring home more at the end of the day as I don't have to pay out on child care. Perhaps you could look into something similar? To be honest with 2 little ones I find it so much easier having a stress free job and I actualy go to work for a rest! It all depends on what you want - if your career is important to you then that has to be factored in. I took the view that as ds wasan ivf baby and dd a wee surprise miracle, I wanted to be there for them and sod the career.

I think if I was you I'd just go back to the original job FULL TIME (more mat pay!! DS would only be in full time child care for a few months and you would be getting more dosh and keeping your job options safe) and forget the new one (2nd pregnancy is VERY tiring). Then when you are on mat leave with your 2nd you can relook at any opportunities.
Good luck - hope I haven't waffled too much
