Is there any reason to not carry on using HMRC Basic PAYE tools now it's RTI?

I've always used it

I only have a few employees

Is it going to be really difficult to do RTI? do I have to buy something?

?

I know several people who are already using the HMRC (weekly wages) and it seems to be going okay. I employ more staff than it will take so use Sage and our first two weeklies seem to have gone okay apart from our wage week was Sunday to Sunday we have had to change it to Friday to Friday.

We're monthly & I'm panicking a bit (which is quite unlike me wrt Tax.....children yes I panic, but not tax normally)

The basic PAYE has been updated to deal with RTI - there's an update on the website.

It's not that complicated; it's basically sending them monthly what you used to send them annually.

But aren't their problems with the new version?

Or is that just gossip?

Can't answer that sadly - but I suspect they would have released patches if there were as many as gossip suggests.

Could you not try it, then if it doesn't work, call the online services help desk - you'll have submitted it and logged it so no fines should then ensue?

(PS good luck - I'm spending this weekend doing my company's RTI for the first time Confused )

I printed out the guidance rather than read it from the screen; I thought I could do with all the help I can get

The rti version is pretty similar to the old basic PAYE tools. I am continuing to use it.
