Has anyone left teaching after maternity leave to be a private tutor?

I'm a ft English teacher struggling through my first trimester. I can't begin to imagine going back to ft with a baby. Thinking that if I could make some money doing private tuition then I'd be much happier. Has anyone done this?

hi I have been a tutor - for time you work its can be good money -there maybe some demand for english - especaily GSCE TES forum has a private tutors section and there are some good websites for advertising - first tutor for example - this will give you an idea of the going rate in your area.
You would have to work evenings and weekends -and to get a reasonable number of students it would be best to work some early evening so you would need some childcare I would imagine -

I'm a maths teacher, I went back part time, 3 days a week (spread over 5). There's no way I could do full time teaching, but part time is manageable, fewer lessons means less marking so I've got a lot of my evenings back too.

Private tuition would be out of school hours, most likely early evening which would be really inconvenient as that's dinner and bed time - the only time of the day we get together as a family.

Have you considered going back part time?
