Teaching - what are your views ?

I am thinking about retraining as a primary teacher as a short to medium term goal. What are your experiences of teaching ? Will it be worth it (and I am not really talking financially as I know the pay is pretty shit) ? Or is it all just paperwork these days ?

Love my new job! Rather deal with high security (and not so high) prisoners than 13 year olds any day!

I'm ditching my current career and was considering teaching but decided to opt for Teaching Assistant at the mo. I haven't ruled out teaching but its just not for me at the moment.
Best of luck though if you take the plunge !

I'm full time teacher on mat leave.

Honestly?

It's great in the classroom with the children, but I spend more time doing planning, assessments, records, preparing and other paperwork, than I ever do teaching.

The paperwork has increased dramatically over the 10 years I've been teacher, as well as the constant observations. If I'd known, I wouldn't have ever trained!

Agree with all puff has said. I taught primary for 7 yrs haven't worked now for four years and due to the hours needed outside the school day I'm definately not rushing back!!

I'm also a full time teacher (primary) on maternity leave. I love actually teaching the children but am dreading going back because I just don't see how I can physically get all my prep, marking, planning, reports, displays, management responsibilities, etc, etc, ETC! done and ever see my child!

Feenie - me too!
How are we going to cope? I desparately hope to go back part time - but I'm not holding out much hope.
