OFF WORK WITH PND & threatened with dismissal

Im currently off work with PND & ive been "invited to an interview for consideration for dismissal on grounds of inefficiency"....surely this cant be right, btw Im a civil servant....any advice greatly recieved....TIA

Inefficiency isn't to do with you being off sick, it's to do with the range / amount of work that you do when you are at work.

Have you had previous meetings at work regarding your performance?

Get on the phone to your union, to acas, to the CAB and to any other group you can think of.

You need to get advice from someone who knows employment law. Can you make an appt to see anyone?

Have you been seen by occupational health? Have they followed the proper procedures? Have they investigated any reasonable adjustments they can make?

Is PND protected under the DDA as a mental health condition? You'd need to find out.

How long have you been off work with PND? Presumably this comes sometime soon after your return from ML? Have you had any previous indications of issues with your work? Do YOU believe that there are any issues and, if so, are they related to your PND or do they pre-date that?

How bloody wrong am very angry on your behalf.
Postnatal depression is an illness. You can not be sacked for being ill?
Get union advice and have someone attend interview with you.
Also must be charity groups for postnatal depression ring them for advice.
Stay strong. And hope you are getting help from GP and health visitors?

FlorenceMattel - You can be sacked for being ill. If you have a persistent or long term illness that makes it impossible for you to do your job your employer is entitled to dismiss you. They don't have to keep you on indefinitely in the hope that one day you may be able to do the job. In any case there is nothing in the invitation to indicate the OP is being sacked for being ill. They talk about inefficiency. This could relate to the standard of her work before she was ill.

Er, you can be sacked for being ill. And, in fact, my company has just dismissed someone due to illness.

Yes you def can.Sorry. BU t do check how 'protected' an illness to do with pregnancy is.
Usual advice - ring ACAS..they are open til 8pm tonight and on Saturday morning. (CAB not so good In my experience)

No pregnancy related protection for pnd as men can get depression too. It may be classed as a disability

Ok people who know more than me lol you obviously can be sacked for being sick long term. But postnatal depression is treatable, and not long term and would cause you to be inefficient while suffering. OP has not responded hopefully she is getting help.
