HELP Been offered another job after accepting another position wwyd

I have already accepted a new job at is initially only for 6 months with a view to going perm that I am due to start in 2 weeks and I have already signed the contract, I have now been offered an other position at a different company and I would like to accept as its a better job in the way of the level that I will be, it's permanent, only 20 miles each way as opposed to 43 miles each way, better prospect and an overall better financial package.. But I am concerned as I have already signed a contract and also that I don't wish to let anyone down.

Please help as need some urgent advice before Monday.

What is the notice period for the contract you have signed? If it is, say, four weeks, then you could give notice now, start in two weeks' time, work for two weeks, then be free to start at the other job.

A kinder alternative is to explain the situation to the employers and negotiate with them as to a leaving date that would suit you, the employer whose contract you signed and the other employer. I have done similar things myself in the past. It depends how confident you are in your negotiation skills and also how long the second employer is willing to wait.

Just be honest with them and be very apologetic. It'll be irritating for them, but they will understand and it's better for you isn't it? Sometimes you have to do what's best for you, even if it makes you feel bad

Agree you just need to call and then follow with a letter. You won't enjoy it but it has to be done

If you have accepted the contract you must give notice according to the contract. They probably won't but they could hold you to it

My dh did this and told the employer a couple of days before he started work. He felt really awful doing it, but like your situation the second job was so vastly different and a much shorter commute that he felt he had no choice. The first employer was pretty peed off, but didn't hold him to his notice period (no point from their pov, would have been incredibly awkward for everyone).
