So I have found a job I wan to apply for, typically the closing date is this week so I haven't got lots of time. I've just sat down to start and am feeling so out of practice! I haven't done a job app for over 6 years.

My main question (at this stage) is do I need to list all of my previous employment? How far back do I go, i.e do I list waitressing jobs whilst at school? Also, I spent a year travelling in Australia where I did lots of short temporary jobs, how much of those should I list? Some of them were relevant, others not so much but I'm thinking if I put nothing then it looks as I just didn't do anything for a year!

My background is in Admin/management but I've only had 3 jobs since leaving uni so want to know if the othe stuff counts!

it depends on the form, and if they allow CV's cos i know some don't. If they just have a space on the form list the most relevant and say that while travelling you had many various experiences which you would be happy to discuss at interview. I know for some jobs they want you to list everything to the year dot... I had this when filling in apps about my qualifications, If you have a degree then its unlikely they don't want to know about your scotvec module in badminton! Generally I would list any jobs that lasted over a year but rather than focus on the actual jobs list your skills, even if it was sahm, such as multi tasking and time management skills, be as positive as you can be, and good luck!

No I would not list waitressing jobs at school. Maybe list the travel in oz as one episode and mention that you did a variety of jobs.

Most impotent are the mist recent jobs and those that demonstrate the skills needed for the job.

Most impotent?? WTF. Most important

WipsGlitter · 17/09/2012 21:56

How old are you? If you're a wee young thing then do as natashabee suggests but over 30 then no, don't list all your jobs? What's the job?

Chunkamatic · 18/09/2012 10:39

Sadly not a wee young thing, no, I'm 31! I just can't seem to remember how to present myself as a professional!

It's only a part-time term-time admin thing, but will probably get a lot of applications for that fact. Seriously doubt I will get short listed, especially as it will be a bit of a rush but hey, if you don't try...

Thanks for your suggestions, they have helped to focus my somewhat rusty brain!
