Freelance work whilst on maternity leave from full time job

Hiya,

I have previously been self-employed and would be able to pick up on the occasional piece of freelance work whilst on maternity leave from my current employer. This freelance work would be from various employers different to my normal employer.
I can't work out if this is allowed as searches bring up conflicting reports. I know that I could do this legally now as an employee which suggests it's fine.

Anyone have an idea?

I don't know the legal stand point on this so it's probably really unhelpful me responding, but I did freelance self employed work whilst on mat leave and just ensured I was registered as SE with HMRC as no doubt you already are aware of, I checked the terms and conditions of my employment and there was nothing to state I couldn't partake in alternative work whilst on mat leave so I just went ahead with it. To be honest it didn't occur to me that there might be a reason I shouldn't Blush
Anyway, I'm sure someone will be along soon who actually knows what they're talking about!
