Going back to work tomorrow and don't want to!

I'm due to start tomorrow and I'm really not wanting to because my direct boss has made me feel silly for asking for part time. I wrote to her after she'd said no and she returned the mail by being very patronizing and belittling my situation. She had a baby years ago and she had to work quickly after he was born so she thinks I have it good having had nine months off with mine. She works part time herself- 4 days- but won't entertain it for me. I know she doesn't need to give it to me but I don't believe she has taken my need for flexible working seriously. I believe she thinks I am overindulging the situation and she has passed comment on how she believes my son will be fine- how does she know?! Sorry for the rant- I'm just realising it's not good to be too friendly with your boss because then they think they can pass judgment easily. The problem is I was her first assistant all those years ago and she still treats me like I'm 22. I probably can't get another job in the sector because it's very specialised but I wish I could work from home. I can't give up my job now though because we need to pay the mortgage. Sorry for the rant again, just wanted to vent!!! Ta

I know how you feel, I had a whole year off as maternity leave. Spoilt me in a way to have so much time off, which made it harder to return to work. I had to go through a bit of an ordeal to go back part time after working for years as a full timer. However, being back at work really makes me appreciate being at home, more than ever. Good luck.

No advice but all the best for tomorrow.

Don't let her spoil your return to work, you will really enjoy the change of routine.

Do you have HR? Your request should have been given a reasonable thought and you should have been told a thorough reason why your request was declined due to it having an effect on the business.
