In short, tere has been a massive overhaul at work, every area has been assesed as to how it can work better from a remote central HR team, assesing and changing peoples hours, in soem cases people being made redundant or given new roles if their existing role no longer needs to exist. However, our area has been advised that rather than the central area deciding, it will be our manager who is giong to decide our sections hours and therefore all the staffs hours.
While work can't change your number of hours, they can give 8 week notice and change the pattern you work. My manager who will decide on the changes is very much all about himself, he is one of these that pretends he cares abouyt the team and you but really doesn't give a shit and arse licks to management.
We've been told that hte hours are being assesed, and when we asked what would happen if you couldn't commit to the new hours because you just don't have care etc in place, we got told you have to hand your notice in, if you can't do your job, tough.
I don't know what to do, I have childcare and family issues but my manager knows this and other staff are in fairly similar circumstances and I don't think he'll give a fuck, he'll be more interested in putting a fabulous new hours pattern to management than whether people can meet it, and just expect we'll all stretch ourselves to meet it.
I was planning to confirm recent issues at home by email just to say I can't commit to overtie at mo, then at least I've got confirmation that my manager was aware of my circumstances, but what else? Is this constructive dismissal? Am starting to get a bit panicky now about it, we need my (small) wage so i can't leave. Am plnning to look at other jobs at work but obv there wuld need to be ones that suit and then no guarantee I would get it... Aarrghhhhhh
