Are there any jobs at the moment? Any growth areas?

Seems like there are hundreds of applicants after what appear to be only very mediocre posts What interests me is that the same jobs seem to get advertised over and over again which makes me think there must be a problem with those jobs odd hours or crap pay or they think they can get better in the current climate?

What sort of jobs are you looking at?

rubyslippers · 24/06/2012 09:45

In my local paper there are adverts for nursery and care staff every week

Plus teaching and admin posts

have just been looking on line with recruitment agencies etc I have a job at the moment and apply but get nowhere I got a response from someone opening up new but by the time I calculated the additional fares to get there it was not worth it as the salary was the same

I would imagine that debt collection and bailiffs are growth areas in this current climate...

Care is a growing industry, always lots of vacancies in the papers and job centres.

blueshoes · 24/06/2012 11:53

What is your current job? What is your skillset?

Putthatbookdown · 24/06/2012 11:58

The care work is badly paid and most of the jobs are in peoples homes so you need a car. I have applied for a few and basically without a car ( i do not drive) it is difficult I would be a superb nanny for say children 8 years upward s as I have QTS but they seem to want drivers to pick kids up from school which is fair enough. My current job is a pain as they keep trying to get rid of me as they are reducing numbers : so on the lookout I saw one I liked a month ago but the fares to get there are ridiculous £200 pcm from a salary of £18000 plus the time is ridiculous I can see why so many people are on the dole I really can

If you want to be a nanny, then why not learn to drive?

Arana · 25/06/2012 10:26

Lots of jobs in Brisbane :)

rubyslippers · 25/06/2012 21:55

My nanny doesn't drive

Can make things difficult sometimes but not impossible IME

I work in IT Recruitment and are finding that we are struggling to find top candidates. There are more roles than there are good enough candidates for them are the minute.

I would recommend anyone, if they can, to go into a career in development, software testing or infrastructure - wish I had :)

removals (office) so many people losing their homes at mo. my bruv is working 70 hours+ a week , one persons loss........

workshy · 02/07/2012 22:38

I work in retail and we are struggling to recruit due to weekend working

I've had a 30 hr vaccancy for nearly 3 months and I just can't get any quality candidates

IMO people aren't leaving jobs anymore
it used to be a way of progressing your career, jumping form company to company, but people are so scared of losing their current employment rights they aren't looking anymore

Contact centres and lots need languages!
