just because of ONE bad night !

Just been to see my manager and apparently there were some 'serious complaints' from a Resident and another member of staff about our (another new girl) work last Friday. "Things" supposedly happened at 7am which I should have sorted, but infact they didn't happen until gone then as we didn't give handover until gone 7.10 as one of the girls (who I suspect is the 'complainer') didn't come in until then. For example, I finish at 7.10 - but didn't leave until 7.45 on Saturday morning and apparently I gave at handover that one gentleman was sat on the bed naked - I actually told someone as I was on my way out the door at 7.45 as it was then that I found him.

Most of what was said was complete and utter bollox but because I'm the 'new' girl and this other one has been there eons, and is the day supervisor so it's her word over mine.

I'm partly and partly that this is all being laid at my feet when most of it was out of my hand.

going to go via the One Stop shop and buy a notepad - one small enough to fit in my pocket - and then I'll be able to carry it disctreetly.

just one thing - we do hourly checks of the residents. However, usually we'll take it in turns - should I write down that I did x,y,z (even if it's just to say that I had a 5 minute break) while A,B, or C did the check??

was giving answer and some more pointers then aol cut out - will try again

Flossam · 23/02/2006 20:58

Discuss who will do the checks and when and on who. Then document that you didn't do them, or did do them and if not who did them, or who you asked to do them.

lexiemum · 23/02/2006 21:01

ok write something like:

"x (you) and y completed hourly checks alternately from 9pm till 7am and ................" add what is required

make sure you ask the other workers if they have anything to add to the notes that you are writing so that you get a true record of all events - don't just assume because they haven't told you that all is ok - they may have forgot to tell.

there's some other bits which I'd like to share - I'd send sep post so you can go off to work with a clearer head.

where are you? I could with some support workers like you?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 23/02/2006 21:04

I won't ask if they've got anything to add to the notes - I'll just say that "X" did the check at Y oclock and add anything they tell me.. Don't want some of the people I work with sticking their noses in - especially as the girl I'm on with tonight is one who's obviously been telling fibs about me IYKWIM.

I'm in Wellingborough.

Suppose I should go and tidy the kitchen and iron my uniform - have to leave in 1/2hr and DH will be home soon......

Just want to say, before I go, thanks to you all. Still feeling rotten - but at the same time smug knowing that I'm not going to let management, or any of the other new girls mess me about. I'll write those notes as thoroughly as is humanly possible (went to toilet, had fag break, had coffee, changed very pooey pad, cleaned up vomit, needed another fag )

How did last night go?

The keeping of your own records will give you confidence that you can refer to be - and be seen to refer to - what actually happened, without relyign on your memory.

Alos, if this girl sees you keeping records, she may think twice before makig things up/trying to pass the buck.

Do state in your notes who has done which checks - but as they are your own notes about what you did, you only need to record what you did. As you suggest, if they happen to tell yuo that they did something, then you can record that - but don't mkae a point of asking them.

Yes- and do state what you were doing whle the other did the checks. And note down any breaks you - and whoever is on with you - take.

You will get through this time!

Just checking in to see how your night went.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 24/02/2006 15:59

Last night was ok actually, got to work to find the girl who should have been work had called in sick (14/25 residents have had this V+D bug and quite a lot of the staff picked it up too). So I was on with someone different, who, while I know she's a bit of a gossiper, I feel/felt much more comfortable working with.

I kept my notes - not many as we had an incredibly quiet night.

On again Sat/Sun nights so I'll keep you updated.
