I've got a job now so ... What do normal people wear to work?

I was just begining to wonder if and how I'd ever get back into work when I was offered this job.
I start in four weeks. However I look like an old bag (very much a SAHM wardrobe with seven years of chronic under investment) and I'm wondering how to improve the situation.

I used to love clothes. I used to wear clubby stuff Mambo, Komodo, WLT etc ... but I'm all grown up now with kids and this sort of stuff would look ridiculous on me. High Street stuff doesn't look good on me and doesn't last so I need some ideas.

I need more designer names so I can search for their stuff on ebay, but I don't know of many these days. I know plenty of kids designers but not grown up ones. I quite like Nicole Farhi, Betty Jackson and Paul Smith, but I need more ideas.

do jigsaw do mail order

Enif · 23/02/2006 13:49

yes some of their range is available mail order

FrayedKnot · 23/02/2006 13:56

Can second a big department store like House of Fraser or JL for ideas. Not intimidating - you can get armfuls of stuff & try on, & see what grabs you.
Our HOF still has some stuff in the sale.

elliot - jigsaw do online shopping. and you can also ring them up if there is something that you have seen that you want. have found them brilliant.

bunyanvillas · 23/02/2006 14:15

Can recommend a decent bag, haircut and pair of shoes! I'm back to work next week, seems like a great excuse to go shopping! Like you, my wardrobe is very much that of an SAHM (Tesco jeans every day!) so I am looking forward to smartening up a bit. Purchased a few nice tops in Jigsaw and a decent pair of black trousers so have a few bits to start me off.

Well i never knew that - thanks. Although its a bit dangerous - I find I can spend an awful lot just clicking into that shopping bag...
No one has answered my question though. How do you manage to get clothes shopping with kids, work, etc?

I'm at fiveways spidermama. I keep an eye on who's from Brighton - may brave a meet up at some point.

congratulations on the job by the way - is it in Brighton?

It is in Brighton puddle. Queens Road.
SAo fiveways eh? My ds2 goes to pre school there. We're virtually neighbours but for the pesky A23.
