Fear of becoming redundant.

recently my work has been experiencing alot of money issues with redundancies happening all the time, however, they have recently came to the decision that they have decided to close the business down. it's a small lawyers firm that i am a receptionist for however, there were another 2.

i'm really beginning to worry because the redundancy pay isn't much and i am a single parent. there are not many jobs out there and i have commitments and a young son. my ex-husband does pay child maintenance generously however it's not enough to support my son fully and pay the mortgage.

my house is currently on the market but does not look like it's selling anytime soon.

any suggestions on how to save money would be greatly appreciated!

sorry if this bugs anyone, i'm just panicking:/

I think you may have more luck posting in the Money Matters topic but also check out Credit Crunch topic for lots of money saving tips. Have you thought about taking in a lodger?

The best employment advice I can give you if the business is being wound up and you are redundant, is to make sure you get paid for your notice and outstanding holidays and also get a written reference you can use in the future if the business is no more - you don't want to find a new job and then have problems re referencing.

Have you thought about temping while looking for something more permanent? Also get networking like mad - there are loads of local groups and groups for women in business. Somebody may well be looking for an experienced receptionist and if you meet them at the right time it could work out well for both of you.
