i was hoping for a bit of advice.

i qualified in NVQ level 2 beauty therapy 8 years ago but haven't worked as a beauty therapist since then (i got offered a good job earning more than i could have done in a salon so i took it) . i have salon experience but only as much as a student could have as it was before i qualified. i am now thinking about returning to the industry and i will be enrolling in a course in september at my local college. the question is, do i need to repeat my L2 course (i can do this at night over 10 months so i am happy to do this) or should i enroll in the level 3 course. WRT techniques, i'm not sure i would need to relearn everything from scratch as i can remember alot of it and know that more of it would come back to me but i dont know if there is such a thing as a refresher course instead of repeating all of level 2. the other issue is of course, my studie on paper could all be outdated. 8 years is a long time WRT safety legislations and other things like that so that concerns me more.

does anyone know if there is a time limit on how long you can be out of the salon before you have to retrain?

TIA

I don't know for definate, but io would apply to do the level 3 course. The college can only say no, but there's no point repeating stuff you already know. You might just have to do a bit of reading to make sure you know everything you need.

So much about beauty therapy can only be done with additional courses after the NVQs anyway, so I would try and do extras if you can. I'm thinking the brand specific things like dermalogica facials or Jessica nails.

thanks outraged. i think my mum might still have all my course notes and books from my level 2 at her house so i will get them all out, if she doesn't then one of the ladies i qualified with has gone on to tutor so i will ask her if she still has any of her stuff or could help me out with it.
