Can employer stop DH take Paternity leave

My DH notified his employer 15 weeks before my due date that he wanted to take 2 weeks paternity leave from when I go in to labour and they aknowledge this.

Today he comes home saying there is problem with his paternity leave that he may not be able to take it due to someone being on holiday over the time I'm due. There is only 2 people trained to do this job in the company my DH and the person who is holiday.

So my question is can his employer stop him taking paternity leave?

I don't think they can stop him if he has given the correct amount of notice.

Dh employer tried to stop him or at least make him be on call ( for SPP ) but was told by union they weren't allowed. He ended up resigning before them though.

It's his right so no, they can't stop him.
