Want to go from f/t work to p/t to help look after my grandaughter.

I work as a travel support officer escorting disabled children to school, and cover the lunches. I work p/t over 5 days and want to reduce to 2.

Other staff work p/t, so the option is currently being exercised, but when I requested in writing to reduce my hours by jobshare, the council have said jobshare is no longer recognised, so I can't reduce my hours but I could be a casual staff... no suprise there as there's no longer any obligation with holidays and sick pay etc

I'm going to respond to the letter, but how do I word it or what should I mention?

I know to mentionn other people work similar hours to what I want, mention that the council list 'family friendly' working, but what else?

I would appreciate any help so that I can get my request approved..
Thanks in advance!

I'm doubtful that "family friendly" really extends to grandparents. I usually relates to parents and those with responsibility.

I'm also not sure that the fact that other ls work similar hours has got anything to do with it.

I think you need to make the case for how the organisation won't be disadvantaged ie your ideas on how it won't adversely affect them.

Isn't job share effectively the same as a reduction in days/hours?
