Part-time annual leave -bank holiday allowance?

birdofthenorth · 15/03/2012 11:56

I work 3 days a week, Tues, Weds, Thurs. This means I am not working most Bank Holidays anyway, expect for when Xmas and NY fall on a Tues, Weds, or Thurs.

Am I entitled to any extra annual leave as I don't really benefit from the bank holiday allowance, or not?

Many thanks.

You are entitled leave in lieu of bh.
Where I work, pt'ers get 8 extra days leave (or nine when there are 9 bh in the year), then we have to take a day's leave when a bh falls on our normal working day.

I work thurs & fri.

I get 3.5 hours for every bank holiday that falls on a mon, tues or wed.

That's helpful, thank you!

Yeah at my place I get a pro-rata entitlement to the bank hols, which is in hours. Those hours that aren't used are then 'banked' for use in addition to leave. Very confusing!

Somewhere on the direct.gov website is an explanation of how to calculate your entitlement. Essentially you should add up the number of days annual leave you would be entitled to if you worked full time, add to that the number of bank holidays that your full time collegues get, then multiply the total by 0.6 (if working 3 days mean you do 0.6 of fulltime).

Found the Direct Gov section, thanks. They say 5.6 x no of full days a week worked, for annual leave inc bank hols. Which means I'm owed 1.8 days more than my employee is allocating me, so I'd better politely raise it!

It also depends what you have negotiated with your employer. I work 3 1/2 days a week but get all 8 bank holidays !

Can anyone help me out with this as well. When I was FT, I got 25 days, plus bank holidays. Last year I cut my hours to 4 days, (80 per cent), so got 20 days plus bank holidays. I have just received my allowance for this year and it says 19 days. I asked HR and was told it was to do with "Tuesdays" and being overpaid. The explanation has gone right over my head. I just wondered if someone here can spot anything obvious that might make it clear, before I go back to HR again. If it helps, I normal work Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. Thanks
