Being made redundant shortly after retuning from maternity leave

Hello

My department at a LA has been restructured and I was issued with possible redundancy notice whilst I was on maternity leave.

Since returning back from maternity leave, I've not been given any work to do, as my boss didn't want anything new started due to the impending restructure.

I went for an interview on Friday and was unsuccessful. I am however, better qualified and had more experience prior to going on maternity leave.

I'm now at risk and have applied for other posts within the LA, hopefully, I'll get one of those. The Union says I may have a gender discrimination case.

I used to do very well at interviews but apparently did terrible at the restructure one.

I feel totally despondent and like an utter failure, and have no confidence in going for any other interviews.

I think I just need some handholding Sad

What's a 'possible redundancy' notice?? Either your role was redundant while you were on maternity leave or it wasn't...

If your role was redundant while you were on maternity leave your employer should have offered you a suitable alternative if one was available.

You say you are 'better qualified'. Better qualified than who, than the person who got the job you interviewed for?

Hi flowery.

I was issued in November with an S188 notice, which started a 90 day consultation on redundancies. There were three of us doing my role which was to be reduced down to two. Since returning back from maternity leave I was ring fenced for one of the two existing jobs. The interview was on Friday and I was unsucessful.

Yes I believe I'm better qualified than the people that were successful in the interviews.
