Help with application please - change of direction due to having children

Just wondering if anyone could advise me please?

I left university in 2003 part way through a physics PhD due to being pregnant and needing to return home to family. In 2005 I set up a small business with my dad which we have run pretty successfully since then. He has recently decided to retire so I am now applying for other jobs. I am filling in an application for a physics lab technician in a school and obviously don't want to mention that I was a company director so have said I did office management (true) but I need to explain why I left the PhD though to do something entirely unrelated. Is it ok to mention our children on an application form or in a cv?

It's fine. We've recently appointed a tech and half the applicants said they wanted the job at least partly because it fits with children.
