Hi!
I used to freelance when I lived in the UK. I have to fill out a self assessment tax return even though I haven't worked this last tax year, so that they know I am no longer freelance.
I rang the tax office about last year's tax return and they said to do this year's I have to download third-party software as I can't just use the government gateway. There is a list of providers on the HMRC website.
I can't make head nor tail of it. They can't advise me on which one to use, they didn't even tell me why I had to use third-party software. Can anyone help?!
TIA

their software is only for UK residents
have a quick ask on the UK Business forums and one of the clever bods there may know which one will work for you
