What to wear for PGCE interview? Any teachers out there?

I have a primary PGCE interview on Weds, unsure what to wear. I have a nice black shift dress/ matching suit jacket but wondered if this might be a bit formal esp as its for primary.

Any ideas appreciated... thanks

That sounds fine. Smart is good.

Break up the black with shoes, scarf or handbag in contrasting colour.

Good luck Smile

We were discussing this about teacher interviews the other day. We were split between suit or no suit. Personally I have never worn a suit to interview for PGCE, GTP or subsequent job. Just smart top and skirt. I think what you have described will be fine.

I have always worn a suit for interviews.

I'm on the primary pgce right now. I wore smart grey trousers from next, with a casual smart top. Most people were casual smart. One guy was in a suit and everyone thought he was a tutor!

Hope that helps.

thanks for your responses!! Think I will wear what i already have but maybe add coloured shoes and some patterned tights so it looks slightly more relaxed.

I'm not as young (or slim unfortunately!!) as a lot of the 'straight from uni' candidates and what looks smartish on them I think might just look scruffy on me!!

You can't go wrong with a suit.

Shift dress and matching suit jacket is great.

While some primary teachers may habitually wear PE kit, this is not appropriate for an interview.

Hope it goes well Smile

Whilst I'm here I wonder if I could pick anyone's brains, I've been swotting up on the following as hot topics in education at the moment:
Phonics Debate
Nat Curriculum
Assessment
Free schools/ academies etc
Role of TAs
Have I missed anything obvious???

Thanks

Just don't wear what candidates wore to interviews where my friend is chair of governors:

  • strappy top and flip flops (didn't get the job)
  • t-shirt with FCUK across the front (didn't get the job)

the interviews were when it was hot earlier in the year but really, on what planet is an FCUK t-shirt appropriate for an interview at a primary school?!
