how do I tell boss I'm pregnant?

I mean formally - I have spoken to one boss, and really need to tell second boss (I work in one institute, but am managed by someone in another one) and won't see him for a few weeks.

last time, I had just been offered the job and so emailed to say I'd love it, but am pregnant, and he was great, telling me to start when I could, and he'd do what he could about mat pay.

So am not worried about his reaction, but we have had quite high turnover of staff recently, and I don't want to be all chirpy and 'I know we've lost everyone else, now I'm buggering off too! toodle pip!'

I want to make it clear that although I'm upduffed, I want to keep working, and want to return to work after DC2 arrives if that is ok. Any help with wording that email?!

thanks :)

Hiya, congrats!!!

I would put in the e-mail that (oviously) you are pregnant and that your mat leave will start about ........ date and you will confirm exact dates asap, but that your return to work date will be approx ........ date, again to be confirmed but thought early notice of approximate dates may help them organise cover. keep it a bit formal and to the point, start it with - Just to formally let you know that i am pregnant, do the dates bit and end it with thanks in advance for your support.

Hope it helps

Good luck xx

Just write a letter. They need to acknowledge it formally within 28 days.

You are only obliged to tell them by the 25th week to qualify for SMP, so you can take your time if you want to.
