Just can't get my head around it - permanent 3 days vs temp 4 days a week and tax credits

Have been temping at the same outfit for a year 4 days a week (30 hrs)
They are offering me a permanent post for 3 days a week (21 hrs) for the same gross rate of pay. So far so good.
But, because income is low, am lone parent of two I also receive:
Child tax credit

  • childcare element of tax credit +30 hr element of tax credit I just can't figure out if I will be no worse or worse off I take their offer or if I should ask for slightly more to compensate. Not asking for loads - just don't want to find myself a lot worse off. Please help Thx

I think (but could be completely wrong) that you shouldn't be much worse off as the tax credits will go up when you earn less. So you should end up with a permanent job and with more or less the same money.

I know my tax credits have gone up when I've worked fewer hours anyway. Can you use one of those calculation web-sites to figure it out? A permanent job has got to be better than temping, especially if they want to keep you Smile. Hope all the sums work out for you!

Oh, sorry. Didn't read properly. Not sure what happens on fewer hours but same money Confused.
