Part time secondary teachers - am I being shafted?

I teach 0.5- at least that is my contract. For the last 2 years I have taught a 0.6 timetable as I have so many exam classes (GCSE and A level). I have one day off a week and I work bloody hard, they certainly get more than 0.6 FTE out of me.
This year my timetable has 3 hours of 'trapped' free lessons i.e p4 so I then teach p5 to the end of the day. The school will not pay me for those as they claim not to have any money and I have 2 ppa's and one free as well.
I can't leave school as I need to be back for p5, I have to pay childcare as my children need collecting from school and NOW I've been told that I'm sharing a Yr13 tutor group next year, with UCAS and all that entails.

Am I right to feel aggrieved when I know there are other members of staff in other departments who are 'under' on their timetable but as they are FT they will be paid no matter what.

It's happening a fair bit now IME. I have two teachers on 0.6 who are both in for 4 whole days. If they weren't we would have some very split groups. And I don't think it's unreasonable to share a tutor group, although year 13 is obviously a tough one.

I think you are being shafted. I am secondary and teach 0.6 - for me that is three whole days. I would definitely speak to your union for advice on this.

you are being shafted. Same here the inbetween periods are a pain but I just try and get as much prep etc done as possible and try to think its better than doing it at the weekend.

Happens all the time with part-time teachers. When my mother went from 0.5 to full-time she LITERALLY had no change in the number of lessons taught per week.

Can you go full-time? Seriously.

I understand the 4 days a week and tbh I don't mind - it's the payback for me wanting to teach so many exam classes and even the Yr13 tuotr group is ok. It's just the unpaid frees that gets me. I teach geography.

They did try to get me to teach full time but my kids need me too.

Oh, I don't know. I went from 0.9 to FT and had an extra 7 hours added to my fortnight timetable...

Thanks all for letting me vent. I went and threw my teddy and my Head of Team fought my corner, did some swapping around so now I only have one 'trapped unpaid' free just 2 more get ups now

I would use that free to go offsite or you will get asked to do emergency cover it be plagued by people asking questions etc.

I know a few hidey holes where I can't be tracked down too easily mostly where the SLT are!
