How long officially is a teachers day?

I am thinking of applying for a local teaching post at a school for two days a week. Obviously I would need to put my dd in nursery or with a childminder. But would I qualify for working tax credit, is two days teaching classed as 16 hours?

Spose if you work it out according to how many hours a year it is then

contracted 2165 hours per annum- pro rata that to 2 days a week so its 866 hours per annum- divide that by 52 and you get 16.65 hours per week. That does include the meetings and parents evenings that we are contracted to do. The other, easier way to work it out is 9-3.30 minus an hour for lunch- 5 1/2 hours per day times 2 days is 11 hours a week. If you stay for meetings that's another hour so 12 hours a week keeps you under the threshold

we aren't paid for lunch which is usually 1 hour

You will only get help with childcare if you work at least 16 hrs a week (averaged over the year - I think)
