Teachers, governors etc I need your advice!

I am thinking of going back into teaching part time for financial reasons.
I don't know if this is realistic in view of the jobs market or not. I am a regular but have name changed for this.

Given my age and my CV is it worth even applying? I will be looking ideally at independent schools, teaching learning support or SpLD students.

Potted career history:

*7 years full time in secondary private and state schools- English to A level.
Gap whilst DCs were young
*10 years in college of further ed.
*12 years as specialist tutor/assessor(dyslexia, Aspergers etc) working privately based at home and at the same time- some primary supply, some very part time teaching for 15 months in a private specialist school which finished a year ago now due to cuts there.

I am 56. I look younger and am fit- but is my age and lack of recent school experience going to be a big n-no?

Hi, I am a primary teacher and ex-member of SLT.

I think that if a post comes up in the areas you are interested in, then your experience of SEN means that you stand as good a chance as the next person, particularly in the independent sector.

However, if you had said that you wanted to be a primary class -based teacher I wouldn't have rated your chances that highly, as there have been a lot of curriculum developments over the last few years.

I agree with BranchingOut - your SEN experience is your USP. I have worked in an independent special school and there is a very high proportion of part timers amongst the staff.

I would sell your age and experience as a positive -you have had a break from teaching and are now ready and raring to go again, with lots and lots of experience under your belt.

Thanks for that. I worried that I might be laughed at applying for jobs when I have only had 15 months in a school in the past 12 years. However, whilst working as an independent tutor, I have liaised with pupils' schools, and SENCOs on he work we are covering, read IEPs, corresponded with speech therapists etc etc.

My ideal job would be two days max in an independent school doing learning support.

I read the TES online every week- unless teachers have handed notices in by now there won't be much for Sept will there?
