I'm contemplating a career change into law and I have a work placement next week. I'm mature (according to the numbers anyway) and I have quite a bit of relevant experience - I have worked in the ngo sector providing legal and policy advice for longer than I care to remember. latterly I became a self-employed consultant - providing the same advice and also publishng a number of articles (legal-academic and policy-oriented). The placement is with a big firm that has a small-ish dept focused on my area. reading between the lines I think they are intersted in expanding it (though the climate is tough). The placement is solely in the relevant dept. I'm feeling quite nervous. my legal background is academic and very focused on a particualr area. I know little about the nitty gritty of English law nor very much about its underpinning principles. Anyone got any views on what I can expect? and how I might prepare.

[anyone who knows me would probably recognise me from the above. If you suspect you do, you quite possibly do]

None whatsoever, I'm afraid.

But you are there now, aren't you? How has it been?
