Will I be worse off if i get a job?

I am currently a stay at home single mum with 4 children. I receive full housing and council tax benefit and full child tax credit. I do not receive income support and the rest of my income is made up with child maintenance.

If I took a job working 16 hours a week earning £8 per hour, would I be better off?

I'm no expert on this but had to do the 'sums' when I went back to work with 3 under 4 - its a hard one to work out exactly and for starters will depend on how old your children are and what childcare you need, term time only? or do you need school holiday clubs? expensive for 4 at a time...

I have no idea how your benefits are affected by you doing 16 hours a week, do you know what happening to housing and council benefit once you start working?
I'm guessing child maintenance wouldn't be afected

Personally, I'd start with CAB for some help calculating it all and understanding all benefits/tax credits you can get once working.

Thanks for replying. JOb is school hours during term time so childcare not an issue. I have used several benefit checkers and I think I will lose some housing benefit and will obviously have fuel costs but I think it might be worth it. JUst got to pluck up the guts to reply now.
