Giving notice - in person or by post??

I need to tell my work I won't be returning after maternity leave
Should I go see my boss and tell him in person or just send a letter?

I sent a letter because my boss was an arse, who tried to get out of my contract when he found out I was pregnant!

What was your relationship with work like?

It would be nicer to go in but at the very least could you ring up and explain and then say you'll put it in writing?

You need to do a letter for it to be legal but if you are on good terms I know I would appreciate a member of staff who told me face to face too

Yeah you definately need to have it in writing but would be nice to hand deliver the letter if you have been on good terms with work. If not then just post the letter and sod them

Don't worry I would always put this sort of thing in writing

I'm uncertain as I think if I go in I may be tempted to go back to work and that is not in our plan

I'd try extra hard to keep on the good side of your ex-boss. Maybe even negotiate a few occasional days to do hand over, certainly I would recommned you offer, just as good will.
(paid of course).

If you want to get back into employment at some point, this may well be the easiest path.
Even if that thought is right at the bottom of your intentions, you want that to be a decision, not a lack of opportunity.
