Didn't get on to Speech Therapy course, what now?

It has been my dream to re-train as a Speech and Language Therapist. I spent much of last year getting work experience and doing voluntary work with SLTs in different settings in preparation for my application to City university.

I had a good application: varied SLT experience, excellent academic record, experience of bringing up my own 3 children and good references.

But I found out last month that I wasn't accepted Sad There were over 6 applications per place so heavily over-subscribed.

I have been trying to get hold of someone at City to see if they'll give me feedback but it's proving difficult (I've phoned and emailed). Will keep trying though.

I think my plan is to get more work experience and re-apply next year. But if I don't get accepted again I may have to re-think.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I can't offer advice, but you are not alone, my DD's flatmate was also turned down this year despite lots of work experience etc, much the same as you. ( City too)

She has set her heart on it, but is going to spend another year doing lots more work and reapply for next year.

Good luck!

alibubbles - I finally, after many call and emails, managed to get some feedback and they emailed me my form. There were 5 categories and marks from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent) for each one. Anyone who got 20 points were offered a place, and if you got 19 you went on the waiting list. I got 18!

At least I know I did well and was a good candidate, just not quite good enough. Will re-apply next year and see.

If she hasn't already done so, get your friend to contact City for her form.

Dancergirl, thank you for the update, she got offered a place and is loving the course. Hopefully for you too soon

Hi Dancergirl, not sure if we have spoken before, but I am currently at city training to be a SLT.

Did you apply for the BSc or the post grad course?

I would recommend Northwick Park hospitals prospective students day, I didn't attend but I know several people who did and said it really helped them to apply.

Good luck and keep trying, I was turned down for a place at Reading and was really down about it but then applied to City and am living the course there.
