Resigning whilst on mat leave and finding new job

Hello all wise employment owls

I am on additional mat leave until end May - my notice period is 3 months, so I will be resigning next week. I have got a few interviews lined up for a job closer to home (resigning purely for commute/long hours being incompatible with childcare) and if all goes well, would like to start a new role before end May.

As my mat leave is being covered and I wouldn't be returning to the office before then, does anyone have experience of kindly employers permitting resigners to leave before their notice period is served? Or equally, tales of woe?

Thanks all

If you are not due to be back in work for the duration of your notice period I can't imagine any reason your employer wouldn't release you early.
