Redundancy & putting an argument forward for part time work possible employment dispute

Wonder if anyone could advise? I couple of days ago I was 'consulted' by my employer that it is likely that I will face redundancy in the coming weeks. I have been asked to put forward a document listing my current duties for discussion.

It is my plan to put an argument forward to reduce my hours to 2-3 days, does anyone have any good arguments that they've used? I need to demonstrate a clear cost saving and perhaps present some research to say that part time workers actually give far more than their stated hours.**see below.

I work for a law firm, they don't like part time workers as it 'sets a precident for other staff to apply. Being a law firm they tend to want to shaft you every which way.

***Before xmas i put in a request by e-mail to reduce my hours so i can look after my son, they are yet to come back to me with an answer.

Hope you guys can offer some advice.
