I have no idea where to post this but my son has just been diagosed with possible scabies. Which is fairly horrible. But I just told nursery and the reaction was even worse. They said that they had never had a child with scabies before and seemed to imply that we were a bit dirty. I feel devastated and almost wish we hadn't told them. I'm so worried that he will be treated differently when he goes back. Has anyone had experience of something like this and what on earth do I do? I find it amazing that they haven't had another child with scabies as the doctor said it was incredibly common. Do other parents just not admit it?

he's probably caught it at nursery.

can you get a leaflet and give it to the nursery?
something like this nhs leaflet?
just make sure that you treat the whole household, wash everything in a hot wash or put in the freezer for weeks to get rid of the bug.

Hello, thanks for responding! I did ask them if they had any other known cases and they said that they'd never had it before at all. I find it quite hard to believe as everywhere else it says it's common. Maybe that's like the 'nits only like clean hair' thing designed to make you feel better about it. But I have this awful fear that we'll now be branded the scabies family.

Yes washing all the sheets and stuff. But what about sofas etc. Can they carry the yucky things?! And what on earth do you do if so!! Sorry, recognise that this isn't strictly a going back to work issue, but on the other hand .. I can't currently go to work.

Oh whoops, just realised I haven't even posted in going back to work but employment issues. Really sorry everyone, obviously got in a bit of a flap after talking to the scary nursery lady.

i've had scabies which i picked up from one of my pupils.

doesn't mean you're clean or dirty. you catch them very easily. just like lice.

make sure you treat the whole household at the same time whether or not they think they've got it. wash all bed linen and clothes.

it's ok - they're being silly Smile
